Seattle ‘zine Fest 2026
Went to Seattle Zine fest to check out local competition. In the same flea market as the punk rock flea market on Capitol Hill. The parking lot wasn’t full and bit smaller than the PRFM, but still filled the building interior with booths.
The types of zines present. Most of the bulk of the subject matter had to to with gender, especially trans issues. Even the music zines, which were few, I found had to do with feminist or trans bands. Personal issues followed by literature seemed to be the main topics of the ‘zines in attendance. Art and comics probably followed that, but I didn’t actually take a thorough survey, so they might have given literature a run for their money. There were a couple of booths giving out political zines. There were some tables full of free zines. Sort of funny experience as everybody, including myself, seemed reluctant to take the last zine of any type, leaving a selection of single individual zines spread across the table.
Other things such as the ‘zine construction. There were all sorts of different folds. I’m just a normal 8 ½ x10 page folded in half and saddle stapled, but there was a variety of other formats, especially for mini zines. They were little things about a 16th of a page in size. Some were one sheet folded up to a normal format, while others unfolded like a spiral. A selection of tables in the back were there for people to make their own zines at.
